OTOPLASTY


To correct protruding ears commonly called “Dumbo” ears. The defect of protruding ears may be mono-lateral or bi-lateral and is manifested as a result of a malformation of the ear cartilage, which, by not bending and forming a kind of shell, stays straight and flat . According to necessity it may be advisable to operate both ears in one surgical procedure. The surgery may be performed under local anaesthetic with sedation. The surgery involves removing a small ellipsis of the skin on the posterior side of the auricle and the subsequent remodelling and re-positioning of the ear cartilage with some stitches. Turban like dressing most be worn for one week. A protective elastic headband is to be worn only at night for one month.
